Many people, including lots of police officers, private citizens and military personnel, think that they can religiously practice pistol shooting to improve their marksmanship skills without the benefit of a shooting coach. Many become discouraged when their scores don’t improve or actually get worse over time. The problem is that incorrect shooting practices condition a person to continue to shoot poorly. Every time you practice shooting, it’s important that you do it correctly. You must constantly assess your level of performance and correct problems immediately before they become bad habits.

Highlights:

  • Perfecting your pistol shooting skills and improving accuracy.
  • Shooting low and left?
  • Shooting high and right?
  • Correcting basic shooting errors.
  • Heeling.
  • Milking the Grip.
  • Ball and Dummy Technique.
  • Stance.
  • Press the Trigger.

Carjacking happens more often than you think.  I recently was asked about my thoughts on when to use your gun if you are carjacked.  I’ve put some personal thoughts together and also borrow some ideas from No Nonsense Self Defense.com.  It’s an excellent website, you should check it out.

Highlights:

  • Is you car your primary weapon?
  • When and how should you use your handgun?
  • What about your normal defenses?
  • Safe Arms’ Review Stop and go advanced vehicle defense technique.
  • Keeping ammo in your car, how much and where?

Shooting techniques seldom practiced.  I realize it was only yesterday when I posted the last show, but this was fresh on my mind today and I wanted to communicate it.  I read an excellent post the other day and thought I would put my own touch on it.   In this show I talk about shooting skills I rarely see practiced at a range.  Self defense is not just standing there and plinking away at your targets at the range from 7 yards away.  It’s about shooting in unconventional positions and in various weather and lighting conditions.  Tune in.

Highlights:

  • Low light shooting.
  • Shots from strange positions.
  • Close range shooting.
  • Practicing your draw.
  • Strong hand shooting.
  • Weak hand shooting.

The SIG P238 seems to be the most popular .380acp autopistol on the market today.   I recently purchased one, so I will give you and open and honest review based on personal experience nothing more, nothing less.  That’s the first half of the show, the second half is about overcoming shooter anxiety and some more listener feedback. I also discuss a little bit about Open Carry.

Highlights:

  • Why I like the SIG P238
  • Why at first I thought it was an expensive mistake.
  • Review of the pistol after 250 rounds in one range session.
  • Why some people get nervous in competition shooting.
  • How to overcome the jitters and nerves.
  • What to do if you’re carjacked at gunpoint.

Many more families are taking up shooting as a family hobby.  In this podcast, I talk about why families are shooting together and play part of an interview I recently did with Lisa Bedford, The Survival Mom.  She’s a strong concealed carry advocate and blogger too.  In the first half of this show I do listener Q&A.  Keep the comments coming!  Also, I discuss a little bit about how I record this show, why women should carry, open carry, “man with a gun,” a little more on RBCD ammo and more…

Highlights:

  • The new Smith and Wesson SD series of pistols.
  • How I record this show when I’m driving.
  • Listener emails and feedback, plus my answers.

Thanks for listening,

When to carry and when to shoot are a couple of questions a lot of firearms enthusiasts ask themselves.  In this episode I certainly inject my opinions on these questions, but you will also hear 3 news reports and the opinion of a law enforcement office I recently had a chance to interview.  After this, if you’re not convinced to carry a handgun, then I don’t know what will convince you.

Higlights:

  • Small gun on hip or pocket vs. big gun in the safe.
  • How much should you practice with your carry gun?
  • The Gun Rights Radio Network.
  • Deputy Sheriff weighs in on the right to conceal carry.
  • The Good Samaritan.

Thanks for listening, don’t forget the YouTube channel and many thanks to Eric Shelton at Handgun Podcast for talking about my show.  His show is excellent, you need to hear it.

Steel plate shooting offers good marksmanship practice, speed and accuracy practice and helps you practice drawing from your holster.  Last Saturday I participated in a Man on Man Steel Plate match at my local IDPA club.  You can watch one string on YouTube by clicking here.  Also check out my entire YouTube Channel.  Let me say, this was not only a lot of fun, but a great time with some fellow shooters.  It builds friendships as well as provides a good time!  Tune in and I’ll tell you all about it.

Full Auto Weapons, RBCD Ammo and Oklahoma SB 1685.  The is the first telephone interview on The Handgun World Show.  In this episode I called up a friend of mine who want’s his name to be anonymous, but we discuss the Oklahoma SB 1685 which would join 8 other states in making firearms that are manufactured in Oklahoma exempt from Federal regulation.  There are many differing opinions on this subject.  I try to bring forth all viewpoints as I can so that there is something for everyone on this show.  We also discussed RBCD ammo and fully automatic weapons and what is an assault rifle?

If you would like to connect with other like minded gun owners, please feel free to join me and other listeners on the forum at Today’s Survival Show (another podcast of mine.)  We have an excellent forum there, click here.

Also, don’t forget to support the Handgun World Show if you can, but even if you can’t, I won’t be offended.  Thanks for listening to me talk about one of my favorite hobbies!

Selecting a rifle for defense is just as hard as selecting a handgun.  It’s highly unlikely that citizens in the U.S. will have to use their rifle to fend off zombies, but for the rare situation that would require the use of a rifle, I discuss what to look for,  what common choices there are, what ammo types are out there and why you may want to choose them.

Highlights:

  • Calibers:  .223, 7.62, .308
  • Action types.
  • Accuracy needs.
  • What accessories do you need?
  • What rifles I own and why?
  • How often will you need your rifle?
  • Survival rifles.
  • Why stick with military calibers?
  • The truth about assault weapons
