Kimber Ultra CDP II review.  After renting one and shooting it at the range, I do a brief review of this pistol.  Some gun reviews are nothing but positive and it seems like the author is trying to sell the gun.  I do not represent any gun manufacturer in any way and as mentioned on my show many times, I’m just a private citizen with a passion for handguns.  So you will get my unbiased review.  This is a great pistol though.  I do point out it’s negatives as well.

    First of all, thank you for the information that you provide with your weekly podcast. I enjoy listening to your podcast every week.

    I also wanted to tell you that your review of the Kimber Ultra CDP II was very accurate, I’ve owned this particular firearm for about one year now and I am very pleased with it’s performance and overall reliability. With all of the features this gun has compared to other “custom” type firearms, it can’t be beat. Keep in mind though, that’s just my opinion as a 1911 fan.

    Within the first few weeks of carrying this gun in a molded plastic hip holster, I noticed that the frame was beginning to show signs of damage, particularly scratches. I’ve always cared for my guns very well and I try to maintain them in the best possible condition. When I saw the scratches I was in shock, considering the amount of money that this firearm cost. Well, after a closer inspection it was discovered that the aluminum black matte frame didn’t work well with the holster that I was using, even though it was a holster that was purchased from the Kimber online store shortly after my purchase. So, I just wanted to add that I would advise anyone that is using this firearm as their daily carry gun, to use a leather or nylon holster (preferably leather) to keep any scratching or marking to the frame at a minimum.

  4. Just bought the 4” version as my conceal gun. I am somewhat of a novice shooter seeing as this is only my second pistol ever but, my first was a .357 mag so Iwasnt quite as affected by recoil issue. Just wanted to let all you inexperienced shooters out there know if you like the looks of this gun and buy it you will be able to wield it after some practice.

  5. I’ve been checking out the cost of the Ultra CDP II as opposed to the Super Carry Ultra. All in all, the added cost of the Super isn’t worth the extra two hundred dollars. I’ve also read a couple of reviews that complained about slide wear. Although it concerned me, I realize that someone’s going to find some problem with any firearm. Why? because being machines, all have inherent problems, or weaknesses. Parts wear out, even with finely machined and forged hardened steel. The thing that bothers me the most, and as far as I’m concerned, could be a deal breaker. Is the fact that Kimber only guarantees their firearms for twelve months. When I read this, I asked myself why should I pay so much money for a handgun that has such a short warrantee? When I could purchase others for half the the price. Other guns that have lifetime guarantees? Right now I’m on the fence.

  6. I agree with your point about Kimber’s warranty. For the price you pay for the gun, it’s ridiculous. Good point, I didn’t think of that.

  7. I have had problems with my cdp2 feeding. I have tried everything even sent it back to Kimber. When it first started to feed poorly, the shop I bought it at said it needed to be polished. I did that and now Kimber says they have to replace all the parts that have been polished, at my cost. I have never had this much trouble with any gun.
    It is such a nice looking gun but i wish I never bought one

I’ve had my Ultra CDP for 7 years now and it is my go-to carry gun.  It is as accurate and reliable as any gun I’ve owned (I carry a Glock 20 at work).  I have replaced all the springs with wolf springs (including magazines) some years ago; not because I needed to but just because the round count was getting up there and I figured it was time.  I also had Kimber help me with a broken ejector two years ago.  I called them up and told them what I needed, intending to purchase the new part, since this gun was long since out of warranty.  Kimber sent  me a new ejector at no cost, I had the replacement part at my door 3 days after the call.  Great gun, great service.  Like any 1911 it can be finicky with ammo.  She is 100% with ball ammo and 99.99% reliable with Golden Sabers, which is my carry round.

    I’ve been listening to you for about a year now and really enjoy listening to your podcasts. I’ve been a big Glock fan for at least 6 years now. My edc is a G30SF which is awesome!! Out of the box I was beyond impressed.   For some reason I love the 45 caliber round and It’s the round I shoot the best.   Totally enjoyed the Kimber CDP 2 podcast especially. I have a Kimber Target Eclipse and with the fantastic results I’ve had with that decided to move into a carry Kimber. Your review brought it home. I’ve had the CDP 2 now for about a year and it is SWEEEEET!!!! After the  break in period it is flawless.    I agree with you regarding noticing very little difference in short vs long barreled guns. I shot my CDP 2 at 50 yards and held a very respectful group in the black of a 25 yard target. I’ve been shooting now since I was 12 years old so I feel pretty comfortable around guns. I love my pistols and hope that someday my 2 boys will love having them. Ok no more of your time.
