CCW discussion seems to center around ammo, compact and subcompact guns, holsters, belts and magazines. So this episode has a little of all of these in it. I interviewed Jason Christensen and Un-named Trucker. Jason is the owner of Concealment Solutions and Un-named trucker is from the Roadgunner Podcast. We discussed the SIG 1911 that trucker is carrying, the new Sidewinder holster that Jason is making, the .357SIG round and even some airsoft gun discussion. I also had a chance to speak to Herman Gunter from the Pro Arms team recently and although that conversation is not on this podcast, I talk about some of that discussion regarding .357SIG and .40 caliber guns.  Thanks for downloading and listening and congratulations to the winners of my Shooter’s Club Podcast drawing! Merry Christmas to you and your family, the next show will be on Monday December 26, 2011. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show

Recently I shot a tactical carbine match with Texas Tactical in San Antonio. It was my first time shooting a carbine match with my AR-15. So I took my recorder along and recorded some stage descriptions, recaps and you’ll hear some of the experience during the match. You’ll hear what type of AR that I used and what modifications I’ve done to it and why I think it’s important to participate in matches like this with your long guns. Even a Ruger 10-22! Also, at the end you’ll hear an audio clip from a listener about 1911’s and the original torture test and what was said in my 1911 podcast a couple weeks ago. The 1911 pistol is arguably the most popular gun in the world, just by the number of people who own one. Recently several listeners have asked me to talk more about 1911’s. Since I don’t own any 1911’s right now, I decided to interview someone who owns a lot of them and has shot thousands and thousands of rounds through 1911’s. Jon Hodoway shares is valuable insights and thoughts about owning, shooting, carrying and competing with 1911 pistols. We talked about the grip safety issue, the thumb safety and capacity features and even some history as to how and why Jon Browning designed the 1911 pistol. Thanks for listening and don’t forget about your last chance to help the GRRN, The Powerfactor Show and my show with an investment into my Shooter’s Club Podcast. After August 31, 2011, I can no longer enter your name into the drawing. For more details, see the “Shooter’s Club Podcast” link at the top of this page. Modifying your handgun is something almost every handgun owner decides to do. Many experts in the field of self defense and the legalities of doing so, recommend not modifying your carry gun. Especially the trigger. Sights are the most common modification. Whether you have a 1911 or a polymer wonder, or a SIG, Beretta, Taurus or whatever, it seems as though there’s so much talk and decision making that goes into the modification of one’s handgun. Even revolver shooters tend to favor trigger jobs. In this episode I start with responding to a few listener emails, then get into an interview with Steve Zopfi about trigger modifications. We don’t talk much about competition shooting, mostly we discussed modifying carry guns. He discusses his STI and his Glock. So thanks for downloading and listening and links can be found at the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show

This week, Steve and Rick from the Powerfactor Show talk with me about getting ready for the Double Tap Championship (USPSA) in Wichita Falls Texas next weekend. So naturally this episode is about competition shooting. We discuss what guns we are shooting, what spare parts we are bringing, what courses of fire to expect, they type of holsters we will be using, what divisions and classifications we are shooting in and what shooters we expect to see and interact with at the match. I just finished the 2 Day “Close Range Gunfighting” course with Suarez International this past weekend and it was great. So tune in next weekend and I will bring you interviews from shooters at the course and a recap of the course. Then, the following week, you’ll hear Steve and Rick and probably a few other shooters from Double Tap range talk about what happened at the match. For now, enjoy the preview of the competition. Old guns are fun to talk about and also fun to shoot. Not only are they pieces of history, but many old guns are well made. In this show, I interview Rick Breneman again, he’s one of the hosts of the Power Factor Show on GRRN. He’s an accumulator and shooter of old, historic firearms. So this is sort of a Part 2 of the interview from a few weeks ago. We cover some more information on shooting, reloading and collecting old guns. We discuss military surplus rifles, old 1911’s and shooting them. We also get a little off topic and talk about the .357SIG. Will it be obscure in the future? Then we tie it in to shooting old guns in competition and carrying them for self defense. There are actually 2 interviews in this show, the 2nd one is regarding classification in IDPA and USPSA, with Steve Zopfi of the Power Factor Show. Please remember to join me at the GRRN Forum and also consider an investment in version one of my CD/Digital download. Version 2 will be available in about 2 weeks. 50% of proceeds benefit the Second Amendment Foundation. Thanks for listening.

This isn’t really a full episode so that’s why it’s called Episode 106b. But today I had the opportunity to shoot the new Kimber Solo Carry 9mm pocket pistol. I rate this gun a 7. You’ll hear my thoughts on why I didn’t give it a 9 or 10. In my opinion it has some strange features that I believe are weaknesses but also has some very nice features, especially the trigger. Episode 107 will be posted by next Monday.

This episode is and interview with Rick Breneman of the Power Factor Show. One of his specialties is collecting firearms. I have not done a show on collecting firearms because I don’t know much about it, so I took this advantage of an expert’s opinion and want to share it with you. We talk about how to acquire collectible firearms, what type Rick collects and what he shoots! The Power Factor Show is also part of the Gun Rights Radio Network and our first video podcast. Enjoy this interview on collecting firearms. Warning, this show could cause a firearms collection addiction.

Jon Hodoway is my guest on this show. He agreed to be interviewed due to some challenges I had with some of his comments and quotes of me a few weeks ago. We had a very good civil discussion on concealed carry, caliber, choice of gun, training, stopping power and why he doesn’t like the .380acp! So download and listen as soon as you can. I found this to be very informative and while we don’t see eye to eye on everything, that’s a good thing. Jon does a good job of backing up his arguments and he makes some very convincing points. I like the fact that he used evidence that he’s found and not just pie in the sky theories. We also discussed some expensive 1911’s and a couple of revolvers.

Before and after analysis of the Real World Gun Match that’s more defensive oriented than most competition matches in my opinion. I realize it’s still a game, but I shot my carry gun and used my carry gear/holster, etc. This is a relatively short show but I think you’ll enjoy the analysis and shooting results. I also got a chance to shoot a Wilson Combat CQB 1911, so tune in for a quick review on that gun. This Friday I’ll post my recent interview with Jon Hodoway. Remember to join the GRRN forum if you’re not already and check out my Facebook Page, YouTube Videos and Shooters Legion page.

Also, if you haven’t ordered my CD or digital download yet, let me encourage you to do so. Your draw from the holster is one of the most important skills to know to deploy your handgun for self defense. So is performing a reload. In this episode I get taught a new way of performing a reload. We also break down the 5 step reload into on of the best explanations I’ve ever heard in the audio version. I cover a little listener feedback in segment one. But have you ever stopped to concentrate on your draw stroke? Do yo practice it? Thousands of repetitions? When you reload do you look your magazine into the magwell or keep focused on the threat? What do you do with your gun to regain sight picture after a reload. The porpoise technique? Does your draw look like a bowling ball motion? Tune in, I think you’ll find this show educational no matter what your skill level. This show pertains to you while shooting competition OR self defense.

Eric Shelton from the Handgun Podcast joins me this week to discuss our podcasts, how they came about, why we do this and how we are similar, yet different in a few ways. We discuss ideas about concealed carry guns, holster, sights, lights on guns, revolvers, sights, trigger pulls and more. We agree on some things and differ on others but I have to let you know that Eric’s show has certainly been an inspiration to me and one of the influences that made me start this podcast. Eric and I also discuss why we like to carry a Glock 19 and how I started shooting 1911’s in IDPA. For those of you that don’t know, Eric’s show is also part of the Gun Rights Radio Network. Last Friday I was on his podcast, so you may want to listen to that first, because this is sort of a “Part 2” of that episode. Both interviews were recorded at the same time.

Analyzing practical shooting down to every detail is what Steven Zopfi and I attempt to do here. He’s been a longtime shooter (18 years) and is an IPSC Master Class shooter. He also has listened to this show for quite some time and has some real good insights on how to shoot effectively. You will really enjoy this interview and especially if you are involved in the shooting sports like IDPA, USPSA.

Highlights:

  • Seeing what you need to see.
  • Shooting with both eyes open?
  • The one year Glock 19 experiment.
  • Transitioning from Glocks to 1911’s and back and forth.
  • Trigger control
  • Transitioning.
  • Brian Enos’ Forum.
  • A story about when Steve shot against Rob Leatham.
  • Tangfolio’s new production division pistol.
  • Trigger jobs.
  • The subconscious level of practical shooting.
  • How competition shooting applies to self defense.
  • Dry fire practicing.
  • Working a flashlight while shooting.
  • Syringe method.

Tune in again later this week, I will recap my experience at Suarez International’s Close Range Gunfighing Class. Remember the Freedom Raffle, time is running out! Join the Gun Rights Radio Forum and check out my newest YouTube Video.

Bad shooting habits from competition shooting is a common problem.  You know I’m a big fan of the shooting sports but there are some bad habits people sometimes develop that can get you killed.  Also, some good listener feedback was sent to me while I was on vacation about gun control, The Appalachian Trail Guide, a new pistol league, Smith and Wesson M&P’s, accurized 1911’s and more.
