Anatomy of Ending a Fight is important to know in case of the unfortunate event that occurs when you have to use your handgun. Please keep in mind, I do not in any way advocate killing or using lethal force unless it’s absolutely necessary. Please educate yourself on when to use deadly force. Courses by Massad Ayoob and Tom Givens are excellent resources on this topic. But if you do have to use your gun I hope you find some good basics as to how you can more likely stop your attackers. I’ll discuss things like CNS hits, RS hits, CS hits and effective stopping power techniques. Please read an excellent post on this too sent to me by a listener. Good stuff complete with a video! You’ll also hear why I really don’t think caliber is a big deal. Big and slow vs. small and fast, it really doesn’t matter, in my opinion. What matters more is how effectively you can react and place your shots and where you place them.

P.S. I usually don’t put out 2 shows in one week, but since Eric’s interview was a pleasant surprise and up and ready to go I wanted to get it out there. This episode was to be the regularly scheduled episode.

AR-15’s are everywhere aren’t they? A listener, Steve from Alabama is now a civilian but has an excellent military background and we discuss the AR-15/M-4 Carbine. I know there are thousands of choices, but I do ask the question “what do you recommend?” You may be surprised by his answer. We also discuss training with your AR/M-4, good information resources at M-4Carbine.net and what to look for in the black rifle. Also, I made both donations to the Second Amendment Foundation and Gun Rights Radio Network this week. Thanks to all who supported the Freedom Raffle. Can you carry a big gun? Why not? If so, why do you carry a large gun? Questions often asked, so I give you my answers. First I start with a review of the .357SIG, after I went to the range and shot a Glock 33. The Pro Arms Podcast recent review of the .357SIG got me interested in what all the fuss was about. I must say, I was quite impressed. Then I talk about an IDPA experience and a little bit of news and listener feedback. The main topic is carrying a big gun and why you should do it.

Highlights:

  • .357SIG Glock 33 review.
  • Using caliber conversion barrels in .40 cal and .357sig guns.
  • Using the wrong recoil spring in Glock 19.
  • What happens when you clean 2 guns at the same time.
  • IDPA match recap.
  • Big Slims Firearms store controversy.
  • How the right belt and holster help you comfortably carry a big gun.
  • Compromises in concealed carry and why I think you shouldn’t make too many of them.
  • The case for carrying a high capacity weapon.

A mixed bag of gun talk is all I could think of to title this podcast. While driving I share some thoughts I have about pistol caliber carbines, sights, belts, holsters, ammo, 20 gauge shotguns, survival guns and more. This is a relatively short show, I’ve been pretty busy this week. Don’t forget to listen to the pistol caliber carbine podcast I did on my survival show. That was in favor of pistol caliber carbines, this show is a reason not to own one. You decide. I do talk about the great many benefits of the Marlin 1894c .357 magnum, buffalo bore ammo, Marlin Camp carbines and more. Don’t forget it’s down to the wire for the Freedom Raffle. It’s too late for you to mail the money but you can still use a debit or credit card. Drawing is this Friday Sept. 17th.  Thanks for supporting this show, The Gun Rights Radio Network and The Second Amendment Foundation! Randy Harris, a.k.a. Cruel Hand Luke, is an instructor at Suarez International. In my opinion they are one of the best firearms training schools you can attend. I will take their Close Range Gunfighting Class this month. This show is based on an excellent article Randy wrote for Warrior Talk News (Gabe Suarez). I put my own flavor on it and relate some personal experience as I take you through the combination of point shooting and sighted shooting of a defensive handgun.

Highlights:

  • Point Shooting vs. Sighted Shooting.
  • Distance determines your sight use.
  • What if the target picture is bigger than your gun?

Full Auto Weapons, RBCD Ammo and Oklahoma SB 1685.  The is the first telephone interview on The Handgun World Show.  In this episode I called up a friend of mine who want’s his name to be anonymous, but we discuss the Oklahoma SB 1685 which would join 8 other states in making firearms that are manufactured in Oklahoma exempt from Federal regulation.  There are many differing opinions on this subject.  I try to bring forth all viewpoints as I can so that there is something for everyone on this show.  We also discussed RBCD ammo and fully automatic weapons and what is an assault rifle?

The XS handgun sight system does take a bit of time to get used to because it does not present  classic “square post in a square notch” sight picture offered by other sights. To line up XS sights, the shooter needs to place the large front dot in the center of the shallow V rear notch. When this is done correctly, the large white dot will sit on top of a white line in the center of the notch. XS calls this “dotting the ‘i.'”   Whichever visual representation you wish to use does not matter as long as the job gets done.

The 24/7 sight has the advantage of having a white front dot with a green tritium dot in the middle, and the rear white line has a green line in the center. I find the combination of the black, white and green sight easier to acquire than a plain white sight. At close range (15 yards and in) the front dot goes on top of where you want to shoot. At farther distances, rounds will hit at the top of the sight dot.

In this episode I will discuss more on XS Big Dot Sights and let you hear from some shooting experts about these sights and about point shooting vs using your sights.
