A little over a week ago I took Suarez International’s Close Range Gunfighting course in Dallas. Many listeners were there to train with me. It was intense and taught us about the defensive mindset and how to safely and efficiently use our gun to stop the situation if it ever got to that point. So I decided to record a little bit of what happened at the course. I interviewed other students and also had a chance to record our instructor discuss the significant points of the class. Short of actually being there, this recording should help you share the experience. Please try to get to one of these classes. I think it’s a wise investment if you carry a gun and plan to use it as a defensive tool. We cover after action assessments, SUL, shooting with both hands and a lot more. Thanks for listening. I will post links related to this show on the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum. Thanks for listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show.

This week I address the long backlog of listener feedback and questions. Some of the topics are the 1,000 round trigger job, IDPA, gun ownership and mental health issues, Glock triggers, magazine capacity, training and even a few disagreements with some of the points made on a few of my recent shows. I think that’s a good thing because there are a lot of ways to defend yourself with a handgun and differences of opinion are healthy. This was recorded about a week in advance so if you’ve sent me a questions or comment within the last week, I will get to it on next week’s show. Thanks for your comments! Please feel free to join the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum and make more comments there if you wish. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show.

Gabe Suarez, founder and lead instructor of Suarez International joins me on this episode. His instructor for Close Range Gunfighting coming up in Dallas and instructor Jon Payne also joins me. We discussed how and why Gabe started his training school, the importance of magazine capacity, why 9mm, what CRG is all about, training mindset, dry fire practice, handgun fit, what “winning a gun fight means” and more. Gabe also shares a story about a man involved in a self defense shooting without enough ammo. Thanks to listeners who emailed in some neat questions, Gabe and Jon gave us a lot to think about in this episode. Thanks for downloading and listening and don’t forget to join the forum at the GRRN. Recently I had the chance to receive some sample holsters from High Noon Holsters. They sent them to me for review. After nearly a month of using them, I have decided to share my thoughts. They are excellent holsters. If you’re looking for a good leather holster you really need to give High Noon Holsters strong consideration. I will discuss things like ruff side out, sight tracks, reverse J Clips, reinforced mouths and the excellent High Noon belt for concealed carry. Many thanks to Alex at High Noon Holsters for giving me this opportunity. A follow up YouTube video will be coming shortly so I can put into pictures what I say on this show. I carried my Glock 19 and my Kahr PM9 for nearly a month in these holsters. One was the Alter Ego and the other was the Hideaway. I carried them appendix carry and even shot IDPA with the Alter Ego carried behind the hip. Listen carefully and you will hear my thoughts. Next week, Gabe Suarez will be one of my guests. If you have questions you would like me to ask him, please email them to me by this Friday, 15th. I’m also making another special announcement on this show, so thanks for listening. Too much discussion takes place about guns and shooting equipment that really doesn’t matter too much. What I mean by that is that it doesn’t help your ability to shoot and defend yourself too much. My guest, Jon Hodoway, on this show really makes this point quite nicely. He also recently won the Central Florida Tactical Conference shooting match. He’s also a firearms trainer for the Massad Ayoob Group. Among other topics such as Glocks that sometimes jam, range rental guns, how to test a gun, and the Ron Avery drill, we spend quite a bit of time talking about the less than important stuff that internet ninja’s and internet commandos spend a lot of time on. You may find yourself asking the question, what should I really do to improve my defensive shooting skills? I think you will find that answer in this podcast. – Bob Mayne, Handgun World Show

2 fellow shooters joined me at the shooting range recently and we talked afterwards. One is from Serbia and the other is from Southern California. Both now live in the gun friendly state of Texas. You will hear their perspective of what happened at the Real World Gun match at Dallas pistol club and how it has helped them improve their shooting skills and self defense gun handling techniques. I also cover some more listener feedback. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like for a new shooter to get started I think you will enjoy this show. They shot their carry guns and give listeners a unique perspective on what that’s like too. Indoor IDPA is a different experience than outdoor matches. This episode is a recap of a match I shot last Thursday. I also answer a couple of listener questions about Mili-Tec lubricant and slide play on a Glock. Then I will give you a before and after summary of some stages. I made some mistakes, also achieved some victories. I shot left handed and discussed lots of well designed stages for an indoor match. Shooting on the move, weak hand only shooting, interchanged ammo and shooting a modified Glock 19 in ESP category are subjects I discussed in the “before” segment. Segment 2 is about the results and what happened. I got some malfunction clearance practice and I even shot a magazine of carry ammo on one stage! I’ll tell you all about it. You’ll also hear a preview of next week’s episode with Steve Zopfi again as we discuss Brian Enos’ book Practical Shooting Beyond Fundamentals.

Please join me at the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum to discuss this show.

Eric Shelton from the Handgun Podcast joins me this week to discuss our podcasts, how they came about, why we do this and how we are similar, yet different in a few ways. We discuss ideas about concealed carry guns, holster, sights, lights on guns, revolvers, sights, trigger pulls and more. We agree on some things and differ on others but I have to let you know that Eric’s show has certainly been an inspiration to me and one of the influences that made me start this podcast. Eric and I also discuss why we like to carry a Glock 19 and how I started shooting 1911’s in IDPA. For those of you that don’t know, Eric’s show is also part of the Gun Rights Radio Network. Last Friday I was on his podcast, so you may want to listen to that first, because this is sort of a “Part 2” of that episode. Both interviews were recorded at the same time.

What happens when someone shoots a Glock for the first time and when someone shoots a Beretta for the first time? Tune in to find out. James and I went to a Fort Worth shooting range. There’s a lot of talk about the grip angle of a Glock and the DA/SA trigger of a Beretta being difficult to shoot. We tried our best to do some myth busting. It’s not a scientific test, but at least an attempt to show what first time shooters of each gun can experience. James shot my Glock 19 and I shot his Beretta PX4 subcompact.
