This episode is about red dot optics on pistols and a review of the SIG 556 rifle. There’s a huge movement to putting red dot optics onepistolary just like those on rifles. This episode explains why and what products to consider. Jack Rumbaugh is my guest again to discuss both of these weapon systems. Thanks for downloading and listening.

Active shooter situations like the recent Aurora Colorado movie theater shooting and the recent shooting at the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin seem to really make people stop and think about their safety and how they plan to keep themselves safe. They almost always lead to more gun sales and more ammo sales. The main topic of this episode is a discussion of how the shooting in Colorado has changed my outlook on concealed carry, training and self defense. How has it changed you? This episode also begins with some listener voice mails. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast

Will competition shooting get you killed? That question has caused a lot of arguments in the gun community. Combat veteran Ben Branam joins me to share his combat experiences and to help answer the question of if and when competition shooting helps  you in a gunfight. We also discussed the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado and the success of Samuel Williams using his pistol to repel 2 guys who tried to rob an internet cafe in Florida. Thanks for listening.  Links can be found on the GRRN forum. Bob Mayne.

It’s often said that most gunfights happen at night or in low light. Yet most people don’t train in low light situations regularly. If all you do is practice in daylight, how will you be confident enough to hit your target if, God forbid, your attacked at night? So, Roger Phillips is my guest on this episode to discuss this subject. He teaches a lot of low light and night fighting courses. This episode will probably make you re-think a few things about how you practice and what gear you choose for your handgun.

What will you do if you have to fight to your handgun? It seems like a lot of people train to fight with their handgun, but what if your attackers are trying to prevent you from accessing your handgun? Do you know how to handle that? In this episode I discuss that subject with a review of some training. Also, Alan from Utah, a listener sent me a pretty good voice mail about 2nd Amendment issues and a Wilderness Tactical SafePacker. Is a shot timer necessary for handgun training? Some instructors think so and Jon Hodoway agrees. During MAG 40, Jon interviewed with me to discuss why he feels it’s important for an instructor to use a shot timer. Also in this episode, a listener discusses the issue of carry gun vs. full size gun for training. You will also hear a review from on of my recent students and a few miscellaneous gun subjects. Several listeners called in some excellent voice mails on topics such as point shooting, short triggers, the rules of engagement and training classes. Also, this episode starts with a detailed announcement of my new position with Suarez International. This is a middle of the week podcast, which is not normal for me, but when I get a backlog of voice mails, I think it’s important to get them on the air and addressed. Massad Ayoob is my guest on this episode. I’m releasing this early because I have a lot of material from MAG 40 and another trainer to put out over the next couple weeks. I recently attended his MAG 40 class in Arkansas. It was awesome! I interviewed him about concealed carry for the hearing impaired, whether CCW’ers have a duty to protect others and female agressors. Also, I interviewed some fellow students from the course and Jon Hodway, one of the instructors. This episode starts with a voice mail from a listener regarding how to choose a concealed carry firearm. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast.

Subcompact guns are extremely popular for concealed carry. So this episode is about the advantages and disadvantages of small semi automatics, revolvers and other guns called subcompact guns. We analyzed Kahr PM9, Glock 26 and J frame revolvers and small .380 autos. Jon Payne also joins me for an interview about subcompact handguns. Thanks for downloading and listening. I got together with Ben Branam to discuss the risks and rewards of concealed carry. We discussed concealed carry methods, range practice, safety rules, real life self defense gunfights and more. This show is released early due to the large number of voice mails I’ve received from listeners. So I will be releasing the voice mail podcast next Monday or Tuesday. Do you carry a gun in your vehicle? In some states it’s legal, yet laws differ from state to state. In some states it’s not legal. But for those of you who can carry a gun in your vehicle, you’ll find this podcast a collection of ideas you may want to try. Keep in mind, this is what works for me. Depending on what kind of vehicle you drive makes a huge difference. But there are definitely some vehicle carry methods I don’t like, so I talk about those as well. Also, this podcast includes an excellent voice mail from a listener in Sanford, Florida. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast

“They do not know, what they do not know.” That’s the unfortumate status of the naysayers of point shooting. In this episode, Roger Phillips joins me for part 2 of our point shooting dicsussion. Back in Episode 150 he laid down the ground work for the point shooting discussion. This episode is a continuation. We discuss subjects like low light point shooting, keys to a reactive gunfight, hand eye coordination and a lot more. It will probably make you less concerned about the sights on your handgun and more concerned about improving your ability to shoot it. Links will be posted on the GRRN forum. Sometimes I have a couple of pieces of gun related material that I can’t make a complete podcast episode out of, but I want to put it out there. This is one of those times. So this isn’t a real episode, but rather a bonus podcast. Don’t expect this every week though, OK? It starts with a lunchtime discusion with a couple shooting buddies, then turns into a response to a listener email and a book that was sent to me. Primarily, it’s about how gun owners tend to let emotions rule their decision making when buying or evaluating a gun. Warning! This is NOT politically correct.
