Ben and I discuss the proper way to clear a weapon. A lot of people commit a lot of safety violations when doing so, especially new shooters. We discuss some bad habits that can form when learning to clear a weapon. Then we transition to selecting a good magazine and how to maintian magazines and which ones are good or bad. Finally at the request of a listener, we discuss our favorite less lethal self defense items, mainly flashlights. This episode starts out with a voice mail from Paul Lathrop of the Politics and Guns Podcast. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast

Most of this show is listener feedback but I also give a summary of The Real World Gun match I’ll be shooting this Thanksgiving weekend.  So stay tuned next week for the results of what happened. However, I do explain the differences between Real World Gun and IDPA. I also answer listener’s questions about holsters, throwing yogurt at vehicles, arm extension, carrying a Kahr, carrying a Taurus, tuckable holsters, practice techniques and more. Please remember to join me at the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum, YouTube, Facebook and Shooters Legion. Be thankful you live in an area where you can own and carry a gun to defend yourself (if you do) this Thanksgiving Holiday and have a great weekend!

Why do handguns jam and malfunction?  In this episode I’ll answer that and give you some personal experiences to go with it.  Often times it’s not the gun’s fault.  Sometimes it is.  I’ll explain both and discuss what’s related to ammunition, what’s related to gun parts and what’s the manufactureres fault.

Highlights:

  • The importance of good magazines.
  • The importance of cleaning.
  • Dirty chambers.
  • Stovepiping.
  • Inspecting the feed lips of your magazines.
  • Failure to go into battery.
  • Recoil springs.
  • How to clear a jam.

Thanks for listening to the show.
