If you are a new shooter or new to concealed carry or even if you’re teaching new shooters, this episode is for you. Ben Branam and I discuss what to practice, using snap caps, dry firing, trigger finger discipline, types of guns for new shooters, 4 round qualification courses, and how to teach new shooters. Also, at the request of a listener, Ben and I address the issue of military personnel having to disarm in the presence of dignitaries. I need to correct some statements I’ve made in previous podcasts about the Trayvon Martin case and selecting a handgun. Also, a couple of listeners called in some voice mails and I want to congratulate the first winner in my SCP contest. So this is a short episode, not really a full podcast episode, but nonetheless, some worthwhile content. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast

Even though this is the HandgunWorld Podcast, every once in awhile the subject is about rifles or shotguns. So recently Ben Branam and I got together to discuss practicing with your self defense rifle. We also talked about ammunition selection and ballistics. Ben ran his AK in a recent carbine match and I ran my AR and we discussed our experience, respectively. If you’re also a rifle enthusiast, you will enjoy this podcast. Have you ever thought about how you would keep yourself alive, after you get shot? Most people survive when being shot with a handgun. But can you administer first aid to yourself? This episode concentrates on trauma medicine. I interview Dr. John Meade. He’s an ER physician and director of Trauma Medicine for Suarez International. He teaches a course called Trauma Medicine for the concealed carry operator. He’s also written a book called “Beating the Reaper, Vol. 1.” Consider this, because of your excellent training, you’ve prevailed in the gunfight, but your spouse who was with you has been wounded. Do you know what to do? Are you prepared? Dr. Meade gives some valuable insights in this interview. Links can be found on the GRRN forum. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast

Two Smith and Wesson pistols are reviewed in this episode. First, Pablo from New Mexico reviews his Smith and Wesson Bodyguard .38 special revolver. He does a nice job with the good and the bad about this revolver. Next, I review my Smith and Wesson Bodyguard .380 semi automatic pistol. I’ve shot several hundred rounds through it and as usual, I give you my honest review of it. I will post an upcoming Youtube video review of it shortly. Many thanks to Pablo for this excellent review. Please keep the gun reviews or audio comments coming! Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show.

We make sacrifices when we decide to carry a gun. It changes our lifestyle, our clothing, out situational awareness and even the places we go to. So this episode is dedicated to making the choice to carry a gun and what comes with that choice in terms of personal responsibility. I also get into the subject of what gun to carry and when. This show is about anti gun people and the arguments they use against people who wish to carry a gun for self defense. Have you ever spoken to an anti gun person who just doesn’t get it? In this episode I discuss the 2nd amendment in detail. I discuss what it actually means, how and why it was written and how it still applies today. If you find yourself in a discussion with an anti gun person, you may find some good ideas in this episode to help you have a persuasive and intelligent discussion about the 2nd amendment and the right to carry a firearm for self defense. This is based on the article, “Top Five Baseless and Subversive Arguments Against the Second Amendment” by Michael Chapdelaine. A link directly to the article can be found on the GRRN forum. This will be the last episode of this year, the next one will be Jan 2, 2011. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show

He talks about how to avoid competition burnout and even how many IDPA and USPSA clubs suffer burnout among their match directors and range officers. Steve also talks about how to avoid individual burnout and how to keep the shooting competitions relevant and interesting for those who do a lot of competing. Even if you’re new to competition shooting, you’ll learn some valuable insights from Steve that will pay off for you in the future. I will be back for Episode 150 next week. This episode was pre recorded almost 2 weeks ago. But since I’m taking a brief vacation from this show, I decided to make this episode 148, even though I made a mistake in the intro and called it episode 147.  Jon Hodoway joins me on this episode to discuss how to get ready for a MAG 40 class. Naturally we also discuss a few other topics as well such as IDPA. Next week will be another guest podcast (episode 149) done by a special guest, then I will be back in real time for Episode 150 and a lot of cool stuff planned for the future! Links for this episode will be on the Gun Rights Radio Network forum. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show.

Eric Shelton, former host of the Handgun Podcast is my guest host for this episode. I decided to take a little time off and asked Eric to jump in and fill in for me and he did a terrific job, as I knew he would. He discusses topics such as the NRA and other gun rights organizations, an update on his status and what’s in the future for him, and also concealed carry handguns. As always, Eric provides thought provoking and useful information for all firearms enthusiasts and concealed carry advocates. I miss his podcast, but also understand how life takes twists and turns. So I think you’ll enjoy this treat as much as I have. Thank you Eric for helping me out and best of luck in all that you do. Don’t miss this episode. I’m taking 2 weeks off right now to get a few things done at work. Next week, you will hear a cool interview that’s already recorded and I will be back on November 14, 2011 with coverage of Suarez International’s, Advanced Close Range Gunfighting course. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show.

This is part 2 of the audio from Mark Vanderburg’s hotel room after the Gun Rights Policy Conference in the anti gun city of Chicago, a few weeks ago. Tune in for a lot of fun and some thoughtful discussion on the gun rights issue and….what about the Litigation Gorilla? (at the end of the show.) Tell me what you think. Is Alan Gura the litigation gorilla? I think he is, you be the judge. Next week, I guarantee I will cover lots of listener emails and questions. Audio from the Gun Rights Policy Conference held in Chicago Sept. 24th and 25th. I interviewed a few listeners and bloggers that share some valuable insights. You’ll also hear speeches from the KnifeRights.org group including Doug Ritter and Tom Gresham. I also include some audio from a group podcast that was held with quite a few GRRN podcasters including Eric Shelton from Handgun Podcast, Gail Pepin from The Pro Arms Podcast, Larry Piekarski from the Gun Rights News Podcast, Mark Vanderberg head of the Gun Rights Radio Network and Bar Stool Discussion, and Me. We also had a couple of faithful listeners that contributed to the group discussion. WARNING! The group podcast was recorded while we were having “fun” and letting it loose after the conference activities on Saturday! Since this is the 2nd podcast of this week, I will NOT be posting a show next week. So the next show will be Monday, Oct. 10th, 2011. I’m going to take a little time off. Please keep the comments coming in emails and audio format. I will get caught up on the next show. Please join the GRRN forum and the 2nd Amendment Foundation! Links can be found on the GRRN forum.
