Calling your shots is an advanced shooting skill. On this show, I bring back Steve Z again for another interview. He was on episode 79 if you recall. We talk about “calling your shots.” I have to admit, I’m still not sure if I do it, or how to do it, but if you really want to be good at competitive shooting and in my opinion, defensive shooting, I think it would be good for you to get to the level of being able to call your shots. We also talk about Brian Enos’ book, Practical Shooting, Beyond Fundamentals and forum. In the first segment I share some more listener feedback that continues to roll in. Also remember there’s only one week left to the “Freedom Raffle” so quit procrastinating and support my show, the Gun Rights Radio Network and the Second Amendment Foundation. Thanks for downloading and listening.

Drawing your pistol and the freedoms of self preservation and self defense are the subjects of this show.  Can you draw your gun quickly and get into the fight?  Have you ever thought about just why you need to carry a gun and the responsibility that carries?  In this podcast, tune in and I’ll talk about why we as people shouldn’t technically even need a license to carry a weapon and how that infringes upon our God Given right.

In segment 2, it’s all about how to practice your draw stroke and a few tips when dry firing too.

When to carry and when to shoot are a couple of questions a lot of firearms enthusiasts ask themselves.  In this episode I certainly inject my opinions on these questions, but you will also hear 3 news reports and the opinion of a law enforcement office I recently had a chance to interview.  After this, if you’re not convinced to carry a handgun, then I don’t know what will convince you.

Higlights:

  • Small gun on hip or pocket vs. big gun in the safe.
  • How much should you practice with your carry gun?
  • The Gun Rights Radio Network.
  • Deputy Sheriff weighs in on the right to conceal carry.
  • The Good Samaritan.

Thanks for listening, don’t forget the YouTube channel and many thanks to Eric Shelton at Handgun Podcast for talking about my show.  His show is excellent, you need to hear it.

Defensive shooting philosophy and mindset is important.  What do you practice when you go to the range?  What are you there to accomplish when you shoot in competition such as IDPA, IPSC?  What is your mindset when you take a tactical shooting course or a combat training class?  This is Episode 42 (I made a mistake in the podcast and called it Episode 41.)   Tune in as I discuss what to think about when you’re practicing and competing.  No music on this episode, not sure why it didn’t come through, but the content is certainly there!

Highlights:

  • IDPA, are you there to win or better your skills?
  • Accuracy vs speed.  What’s more important?
  • Skills vs gear, what’s more important?

Thank you for the feedback from those of you who listen to the show!  I appreciate it very much.  Keep it coming.  Please feel free to use the comments section on this website too.

How many handguns do you need?  You may think I’m foolish to try to answer this question, but I take a risk and try to answer it!  In this podcast I talk determining how many you should buy and also talk about states that limit sales to one per month.  I also differentiate between the specific uses of your handgun and how that might affect your decision.  Good luck!

Highlights:

  • The one gun per month sales restriction.
  • Defensive handgun or survival handgun?
  • Should spouses have the same caliber or same handgun?
  • Do you need a specific training gun?

Carrying guns in cold weather presents a completely different challenge than does carrying in warm weather.  As winter approaches, we need to consider our clothing, being able to draw from underneath our winter clothes and what if you’re wearing gloves?  Also, I discuss what types of ammunition to carry in the winter and also what type of clothing to wear.

Based on Mike Briggs’ article in Handgunsmag.com.  We’ve all heard practicing with your gun is just as important as the gun itself and the ammo you use.  In this show, I discuss 10 reasons why I feel that IDPA is excellent practice.    While it’s not a replacement for good fighting and combat training, there are many benefits from regularly shooting at your local IDPA club.  It’s not very expensive either.

This episode is inspired by yesterday’s terrorist attack.  Yes…that’s right, terrorist attack.  What happened at Ft. Hood Texas yesterday committed by Major Malik Hasan was an act of terrorism.  The media may not report it that way, but that’s what it was.  Terrorists are not always people from far away countries coming over here and hijacking planes or setting off bombs.  Terrorists are also here at home.  I’m not trying to be alarming, just being realistic.

In this episode I discuss the 5 Stages of how violent crime happens and how you can help safeguard yourself against it.  Also, what to do when you are being attacked and how to recognize verbal and non verbal signs of a criminal and what they are about to do.

This show is also about what happens in “gun free zones!”

I also cover several questions to ask yourself if you’re considering purchasing a rifle or shotgun or if you’re re-evaluating what you own already.  I also touch on some issues below:

  • How much accuracy is acceptable?
  • What caliber?
  • Detachable magazine or not?
