Even though this is the HandgunWorld Podcast, every once in awhile the subject is about rifles or shotguns. So recently Ben Branam and I got together to discuss practicing with your self defense rifle. We also talked about ammunition selection and ballistics. Ben ran his AK in a recent carbine match and I ran my AR and we discussed our experience, respectively. If you’re also a rifle enthusiast, you will enjoy this podcast. Recently I shot a tactical carbine match with Texas Tactical in San Antonio. It was my first time shooting a carbine match with my AR-15. So I took my recorder along and recorded some stage descriptions, recaps and you’ll hear some of the experience during the match. You’ll hear what type of AR that I used and what modifications I’ve done to it and why I think it’s important to participate in matches like this with your long guns. Even a Ruger 10-22! Also, at the end you’ll hear an audio clip from a listener about 1911’s and the original torture test and what was said in my 1911 podcast a couple weeks ago. Bonus Podcast – not a regular episode. I recently had the opportunity to interview 2 firearms trainers on the subject of AR-15/M-4 rifle gunfighting. Specifically a course taught by Suarez International on Sept 10th and 11th, 2011 in Orange, TX. Jon Payne and Don Robison are the 2 instructors and they join me for this quick but informative interview covering aspects of defending yourself with an AR-15/M-4 Rifle. Enjoy and thanks for listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show

I treat my gun collection as if it’s a bunch of survival tools. I believe in being prepared. Not only with firearms but in all areas of my life. So recently I interviewed Mr. Chip Monk, host of the Chip Monk Survival Podcast. He shared some excellent ideas on what type of guns to buy or collect from a preparedess perspective. We discussed .22lr, double barrel shotguns, the Taurus Judge, SKS’s and a lot more. Please remember to join the GRRN forum and help the Gun Rights cause. From now until March 15, 2011, I am donating 1/2 of all proceeds from my Shooters Club CD/Download to the 2nd Amendment Foundation. Thanks for listening.

This episode is and interview with Rick Breneman of the Power Factor Show. One of his specialties is collecting firearms. I have not done a show on collecting firearms because I don’t know much about it, so I took this advantage of an expert’s opinion and want to share it with you. We talk about how to acquire collectible firearms, what type Rick collects and what he shoots! The Power Factor Show is also part of the Gun Rights Radio Network and our first video podcast. Enjoy this interview on collecting firearms. Warning, this show could cause a firearms collection addiction.

AR-15’s are everywhere aren’t they? A listener, Steve from Alabama is now a civilian but has an excellent military background and we discuss the AR-15/M-4 Carbine. I know there are thousands of choices, but I do ask the question “what do you recommend?” You may be surprised by his answer. We also discuss training with your AR/M-4, good information resources at M-4Carbine.net and what to look for in the black rifle. Also, I made both donations to the Second Amendment Foundation and Gun Rights Radio Network this week. Thanks to all who supported the Freedom Raffle. A mixed bag of gun talk is all I could think of to title this podcast. While driving I share some thoughts I have about pistol caliber carbines, sights, belts, holsters, ammo, 20 gauge shotguns, survival guns and more. This is a relatively short show, I’ve been pretty busy this week. Don’t forget to listen to the pistol caliber carbine podcast I did on my survival show. That was in favor of pistol caliber carbines, this show is a reason not to own one. You decide. I do talk about the great many benefits of the Marlin 1894c .357 magnum, buffalo bore ammo, Marlin Camp carbines and more. Don’t forget it’s down to the wire for the Freedom Raffle. It’s too late for you to mail the money but you can still use a debit or credit card. Drawing is this Friday Sept. 17th.  Thanks for supporting this show, The Gun Rights Radio Network and The Second Amendment Foundation! Selecting a rifle for defense is just as hard as selecting a handgun.  It’s highly unlikely that citizens in the U.S. will have to use their rifle to fend off zombies, but for the rare situation that would require the use of a rifle, I discuss what to look for,  what common choices there are, what ammo types are out there and why you may want to choose them.

Highlights:

  • Calibers:  .223, 7.62, .308
  • Action types.
  • Accuracy needs.
  • What accessories do you need?
  • What rifles I own and why?
  • How often will you need your rifle?
  • Survival rifles.
  • Why stick with military calibers?
  • The truth about assault weapons

All handguns suck relative to long guns’ stopping power.  In this show I discuss issues like why rifles and shotguns will stop attackers far more effectively.  Even though this is the HandgunWorld Podcast, I do talk about long guns from time to time.  Also discussed, what types of ammunition to use and are long guns less maneuverable in your home?    OK, now the big question, shotgun or rifle?

You’ll have to listen to get the answer.  Also…Happy Thanksgiving!

A show about why how and when you many need a rifle or shotgun for self defense.

I also cover several questions to ask yourself if you’re considering purchasing a rifle or shotgun or if you’re re-evaluating what you own already.  I also touch on some issues below:

  • How much accuracy is acceptable?
  • What caliber?
  • Detachable magazine or not?
  • What type of ammo?
  • Should it be light enough to carry?
  • How to transport your rifle or shotgun
