Active shooter situations like the recent Aurora Colorado movie theater shooting and the recent shooting at the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin seem to really make people stop and think about their safety and how they plan to keep themselves safe. They almost always lead to more gun sales and more ammo sales. The main topic of this episode is a discussion of how the shooting in Colorado has changed my outlook on concealed carry, training and self defense. How has it changed you? This episode also begins with some listener voice mails. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast

It’s often said that most gunfights happen at night or in low light. Yet most people don’t train in low light situations regularly. If all you do is practice in daylight, how will you be confident enough to hit your target if, God forbid, your attacked at night? So, Roger Phillips is my guest on this episode to discuss this subject. He teaches a lot of low light and night fighting courses. This episode will probably make you re-think a few things about how you practice and what gear you choose for your handgun.

Is a shot timer necessary for handgun training? Some instructors think so and Jon Hodoway agrees. During MAG 40, Jon interviewed with me to discuss why he feels it’s important for an instructor to use a shot timer. Also in this episode, a listener discusses the issue of carry gun vs. full size gun for training. You will also hear a review from on of my recent students and a few miscellaneous gun subjects. I got together with Ben Branam to discuss the risks and rewards of concealed carry. We discussed concealed carry methods, range practice, safety rules, real life self defense gunfights and more. This show is released early due to the large number of voice mails I’ve received from listeners. So I will be releasing the voice mail podcast next Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast.

Ben Branam and I discuss what to practice, using snap caps, dry firing, trigger finger discipline, types of guns for new shooters, 4 round qualification courses, and how to teach new shooters. I need to correct some statements I’ve made in previous podcasts about the Trayvon Martin case and selecting a handgun. Also, a couple of listeners called in some voice mails and I want to congratulate the first winner in my SCP contest. So this is a short episode, not really a full podcast episode, but nonetheless, some worthwhile content. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast

“They do not know, what they do not know.” That’s the unfortumate status of the naysayers of point shooting. In this episode, Roger Phillips joins me for part 2 of our point shooting dicsussion. Back in Episode 150 he laid down the ground work for the point shooting discussion. This episode is a continuation. We discuss subjects like low light point shooting, keys to a reactive gunfight, hand eye coordination and a lot more. It will probably make you less concerned about the sights on your handgun and more concerned about improving your ability to shoot it. Links will be posted on the GRRN forum. Thanks for downloading and listening.

Do you shoot moving targets? Do you shoot targets while you’re on the move? These are important skills to practice, because who stands still in a gunfight? Danny Cifuentes of Precision Targets is my guest on this show. We talk about the targets he makes, which are very high quality and we also discuss the importance of using his targets for practice. Perhaps nothing is more important when using your handgun to defend yourself, as busting off the X. In this episode, I discuss a recent training class I took and how much it helped me learn that not getting shot is probably just as important as being able to shoot well. In the unfortunate situation of having to defend yourself with a gun, do you know how to avoid getting shot too? I also discuss long range pistol shooting and give you a recap of the training class and even a restaurant tip. A couple of fellow students also joined me for an interview at Suarez International’s Advanced Close Range Gunfigthing course. Thanks for listening and remember to check the GRRN forum for links. Also, there’s less than 2 weeks left to get in on my drawing on December 16th, 2011. It requires an investment in my Shooter’s club podcast, but I’ve just increased the amount of giveaways. Roger Phillips of Suarez International is my guest on this episode. We discuss point shooting. This is the first time I’ve ever done a show on point shooting and I thought it would be fitting to start this subject with Episode 150. Roger does an excellent job of explaining the art of point shooting. I’ve heard nothing but awesome things about his point shooting classes and intend to take on in February 2012. If you’re really serious about defending yourself with a handgun, you should learn to point shoot. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do 150 episodes! I’m looking forward to 150 more! I shot the Texas Tactical IDPA match on October 15, 2011 at the Cedar Ridge Range in San Antonio. You’ll hear coverage of the match from the range and an interview with a shooter on my squad who shot his XD9 for the first time. You’ll also hear stage descriptions and the results of a few stages. I finished 8th out of 27 shooters in the SSP division. I’ll take that, since I didn’t shoot a match in almost 6 weeks previous to this match. I was in “gamer” mode and shot my Glock 34, Comp-Tac OWB. belt holster and concealed with an IDPA vest. You’ll experience the match in audio format from the range. Links and discussion can be found on the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum. Thanks for downloading and listening and don’t forget, this will be your last chance to get version 3 of my Shooter’s Club Podcast. Click the buy now button, to help out my show, if you wish.

Well, I just couldn’t stay away from the airwaves until Oct 10th, and this is a special announcement, so I wanted to get it out to you now. In this episode Jon Hodoway of the Pro Arms Team, announces the MAG 40 class (Massad Ayoob Group) he’s sponsoring and The HandgunWorld Show is helping him with the promotion. There are a few surprises in this episode too. Links to the class sign up will be on the GRRN forum. We discuss MAG 40, what type of training it is, why you should include it on your bucket list, and we also get into a discussion about the IDPA World Championship match and the rules of IDPA. Don’t miss this episode. Next Monday, I’ll be posting more audio from the Gun Rights Policy Conference. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show

Recently I shot a tactical carbine match with Texas Tactical in San Antonio. It was my first time shooting a carbine match with my AR-15. So I took my recorder along and recorded some stage descriptions, recaps and you’ll hear some of the experience during the match. You’ll hear what type of AR that I used and what modifications I’ve done to it and why I think it’s important to participate in matches like this with your long guns. Even a Ruger 10-22! Also, at the end you’ll hear an audio clip from a listener about 1911’s and the original torture test and what was said in my 1911 podcast a couple weeks ago.
