Jon Hodoway is my guest on this show. He agreed to be interviewed due to some challenges I had with some of his comments and quotes of me a few weeks ago. We had a very good civil discussion on concealed carry, caliber, choice of gun, training, stopping power and why he doesn’t like the .380acp! So download and listen as soon as you can. I found this to be very informative and while we don’t see eye to eye on everything, that’s a good thing. Jon does a good job of backing up his arguments and he makes some very convincing points. I like the fact that he used evidence that he’s found and not just pie in the sky theories. We also discussed some expensive 1911’s and a couple of revolvers.

Thanks for listening,

Anatomy of Ending a Fight is important to know in case of the unfortunate event that occurs when you have to use your handgun. Please keep in mind, I do not in any way advocate killing or using lethal force unless it’s absolutely necessary. Please educate yourself on when to use deadly force. Courses by Massad Ayoob and Tom Givens are excellent resources on this topic. But if you do have to use your gun I hope you find some good basics as to how you can more likely stop your attackers. I’ll discuss things like CNS hits, RS hits, CS hits and effective stopping power techniques. Please read an excellent post on this too sent to me by a listener. Good stuff complete with a video! You’ll also hear why I really don’t think caliber is a big deal. Big and slow vs. small and fast, it really doesn’t matter, in my opinion. What matters more is how effectively you can react and place your shots and where you place them.

P.S. I usually don’t put out 2 shows in one week, but since Eric’s interview was a pleasant surprise and up and ready to go I wanted to get it out there. This episode was to be the regularly scheduled episode.

Can you carry a big gun? Why not? If so, why do you carry a large gun? Questions often asked, so I give you my answers. First I start with a review of the .357SIG, after I went to the range and shot a Glock 33. The Pro Arms Podcast recent review of the .357SIG got me interested in what all the fuss was about. I must say, I was quite impressed. Then I talk about an IDPA experience and a little bit of news and listener feedback. The main topic is carrying a big gun and why you should do it.

Highlights:

  • .357SIG Glock 33 review.
  • Using caliber conversion barrels in .40 cal and .357sig guns.
  • Using the wrong recoil spring in Glock 19.
  • What happens when you clean 2 guns at the same time.
  • IDPA match recap.
  • Big Slims Firearms store controversy.
  • How the right belt and holster help you comfortably carry a big gun.
  • Compromises in concealed carry and why I think you shouldn’t make too many of them.
  • The case for carrying a high capacity weapon.

Full Auto Weapons, RBCD Ammo and Oklahoma SB 1685.  The is the first telephone interview on The Handgun World Show.  In this episode I called up a friend of mine who want’s his name to be anonymous, but we discuss the Oklahoma SB 1685 which would join 8 other states in making firearms that are manufactured in Oklahoma exempt from Federal regulation.  There are many differing opinions on this subject.  I try to bring forth all viewpoints as I can so that there is something for everyone on this show.  We also discussed RBCD ammo and fully automatic weapons and what is an assault rifle?

If you would like to connect with other like minded gun owners, please feel free to join me and other listeners on the forum at Today’s Survival Show (another podcast of mine.)  We have an excellent forum there, click here.

Also, don’t forget to support the Handgun World Show if you can, but even if you can’t, I won’t be offended.  Thanks for listening to me talk about one of my favorite hobbies!

Shotguns are one of the most versatile weapons you can own.  In my opinion, every family should have one.  Even if you live in an area where handguns are not allowed, shotguns probably are.  They are one of the most formidable man stoppers inside of 25 yards that are commonly available and affordable.  In this episode I discuss the advantages and disadvantages of shotguns, their usefulness and what to watch out for when adding accessories, etc.

Highights:

  • Gauge, what do you select?
  • Ammo, what type?
  • Barrel, how long?
  • Stock, should stock vs. pistol grip.
  • Action type – pump, semi auto, double barrel.
  • Shooting slugs.
  • Brands of shotguns.
  • What to look for in your first shotgun.
  • Is yours a dedicated self defense shotgun?
  • and more….

Resources:  Clint Smith, Remington’s Masterpiece

LET ME ADD:  The very idea of being able to chamber a round and the “chunk chunk” sound of the pump shotgun being enough to make the bad guy pee his pants and run away…is preposterous!  That’s a myth that simply isn’t true.  If the bad guy is stung out on drugs, a noise certainly isn’t going to stop him.  So consider that fact that you will likely have to shoot your shotgun, no matter what action type it is.

Mouseguns and pocket pistols are excellent back up guns.  In this episode I discuss how they are good back up guns but should not be used as your primary carry gun.  I define what is a mousegun, what calibers are available, what ammo to use in them and how to carry mouseguns.  I own  Kahr 380.  I’ll discuss that too.  I also answer a listener’s question about RBCD ammo.

Highlights:

  • Pro’s and Con’s of RBCD ammo.
  • The Box of Truth review of RBCD ammo.
  • The compromise of carrying a handgun.
  • What is a mousegun?
  • Stopping power of mouseguns.
  • A mousegun is better than no gun.
  • Sig P238
  • Why a mousegun should not be your primary carry gun.
  • Corbon DPX ammo review.

All handguns suck relative to long guns’ stopping power.  In this show I discuss issues like why rifles and shotguns will stop attackers far more effectively.  Even though this is the HandgunWorld Podcast, I do talk about long guns from time to time.  Also discussed, what types of ammunition to use and are long guns less maneuverable in your home?    OK, now the big question, shotgun or rifle?

You’ll have to listen to get the answer.  Also…Happy Thanksgiving!
