This week, a listener sent me a very good question about whether we should let our magazines drop free, or not. Plus, I share some basic preparedness skills, even if it’s a once in a lifetime disaster.

I treat my gun collection as if it’s a bunch of survival tools. I believe in being prepared. Not only with firearms but in all areas of my life. So recently I interviewed Mr. Chip Monk, host of the Chip Monk Survival Podcast. He shared some excellent ideas on what type of guns to buy or collect from a preparedess perspective. We discussed .22lr, double barrel shotguns, the Taurus Judge, SKS’s and a lot more. Please remember to join the GRRN forum and help the Gun Rights cause. From now until March 15, 2011, I am donating 1/2 of all proceeds from my Shooters Club CD/Download to the 2nd Amendment Foundation. Thanks for listening.

Listener feedback and comments are the topics this week. I’ve received a lot of emails and first let me say thank you! In this show I talk about a mixed bag of gun talk again, why I have 3 CCW licenses, Springfield XDM’s, Revolvers and some corrections to my revolver episode, open carry in Wisconsin, ammo recoil, self training with a handgun, gun free zones, IDPA and more. I’ll even discuss a listener’s email as to why he carries, it’s a good story, you’ll want to hear it. They are all in response to you, the loyal listener. Please remember to join me at the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum. I also cover some constructive criticism and compliments. I appreciate the feedback because it helps me improve the show. You can also find me on YouTube and on Facebook and Twitter.

Revolvers are a good choice for a self defense handgun. They are not my first choice, but at the request of a listener, I did this show on my experience shooting 2 particular revolvers. James Kimmerle and I went to a range, rented 2 .357 magnum revolvers and we give you our straight talk review on them.

Highlights:

  • Simplicity of the revolver, good or bad?
  • Firing a revolver from a pocket.
  • Capacity of a self defense revolver.
  • Reliability pros and cons.
  • Revolver myth busting.
  • Is 5-6 round capacity enough?
  • Every time you pull the trigger?
  • Cost vs. features.

A mixed bag of gun talk is all I could think of to title this podcast. While driving I share some thoughts I have about pistol caliber carbines, sights, belts, holsters, ammo, 20 gauge shotguns, survival guns and more. This is a relatively short show, I’ve been pretty busy this week. Don’t forget to listen to the pistol caliber carbine podcast I did on my survival show. That was in favor of pistol caliber carbines, this show is a reason not to own one. You decide. I do talk about the great many benefits of the Marlin 1894c .357 magnum, buffalo bore ammo, Marlin Camp carbines and more. Don’t forget it’s down to the wire for the Freedom Raffle. It’s too late for you to mail the money but you can still use a debit or credit card. Drawing is this Friday Sept. 17th.  Thanks for supporting this show, The Gun Rights Radio Network and The Second Amendment Foundation! Military Surplus Guns are sometimes a pretty good buy if you are staying on a tight budget and need a good handgun or rifle.  Some are junk, but some are very good.  In this episode I spend segment #1 talking about Military Surplus Guns, some popular models and the ammo they shoot.  In segment #2 I do a review of my new Comp-Tac M Tac holster for my Glock 19.

Highlights:

  • Czech CZ-82 Pistol
  • Makarov’s
  • SKS
  • Mosin Nagant

Carjacking happens more often than you think.  I recently was asked about my thoughts on when to use your gun if you are carjacked.  I’ve put some personal thoughts together and also borrow some ideas from No Nonsense Self Defense.com.  It’s an excellent website, you should check it out.

Highlights:

  • Is you car your primary weapon?
  • When and how should you use your handgun?
  • What about your normal defenses?
  • Safe Arms’ Review Stop and go advanced vehicle defense technique.
  • Keeping ammo in your car, how much and where?

How many handguns do you need?  You may think I’m foolish to try to answer this question, but I take a risk and try to answer it!  In this podcast I talk determining how many you should buy and also talk about states that limit sales to one per month.  I also differentiate between the specific uses of your handgun and how that might affect your decision.  Good luck!

Highlights:

  • The one gun per month sales restriction.
  • Defensive handgun or survival handgun?
  • Should spouses have the same caliber or same handgun?
  • Do you need a specific training gun?

Survival Handguns.  What is the definition of a survival handgun?  Simply put, one that is suitable for self defense and hunting.  I realize hunting with a handgun is not ideal, but you never know when you may be in the situation where you have to do that.  Some handguns guns double as good self defense handguns and hunting handguns.  Some ammunition is loaded to create good hunting ballistics from a handgun too.  Tune in and you will get some good information on versatile handguns.
