Who would have thought that Yogurt and Handguns would exist in the same news story? Well, they did, I’ll cover that in the show. I also discuss the possibility of concealed carry in Wisconsin and how the opposition to CCW in that state is putting out false and inaccurate information. It’s the same bogus argument most anti gun people use. I also do an assessment of the mid term election results and what they mean for our gun rights. You’ll also hear about some criticism of my show and my answer to it. This is a shorter show than usual and I normally don’t put these out on weekends, but I wanted to get this one out there as soon as possible.

Eric Shelton from the Handgun Podcast joins me this week to discuss our podcasts, how they came about, why we do this and how we are similar, yet different in a few ways. We discuss ideas about concealed carry guns, holster, sights, lights on guns, revolvers, sights, trigger pulls and more. We agree on some things and differ on others but I have to let you know that Eric’s show has certainly been an inspiration to me and one of the influences that made me start this podcast. Eric and I also discuss why we like to carry a Glock 19 and how I started shooting 1911’s in IDPA. For those of you that don’t know, Eric’s show is also part of the Gun Rights Radio Network. Last Friday I was on his podcast, so you may want to listen to that first, because this is sort of a “Part 2” of that episode. Both interviews were recorded at the same time.

Thanks for listening,

AR-15’s are everywhere aren’t they? A listener, Steve from Alabama is now a civilian but has an excellent military background and we discuss the AR-15/M-4 Carbine. I know there are thousands of choices, but I do ask the question “what do you recommend?” You may be surprised by his answer. We also discuss training with your AR/M-4, good information resources at M-4Carbine.net and what to look for in the black rifle. Also, I made both donations to the Second Amendment Foundation and Gun Rights Radio Network this week. Thanks to all who supported the Freedom Raffle. Day two reviewed. More good stuff including getting off the X and working a flashlight into the fight. Several different ways to use the light, not a rail mounted light, a handheld flashlight. Faking my position with the way I hold the light that was fun. Then we worked a lot on 180 degree threats! In other words, shooting 3 bad guys in front of me, then doing an after action assessment, then check 360 (SUL) then advancing toward the bad guys behind me and shooting them. Had to do a slide lock reload (emergency reload) while constantly moving because there was no cover. Also more shooting inside 10 yards without using sights! After this course sights are not so important to me anymore. We also did some IDPA style shooting, started by shooting on the move then take cover switch to left hand shooting from one side then right hand shooting from the other side then 3 more bad guys on move. Absolutely good training that you simply can’t get anywhere else. Glenn Matthews is a good instructor. About 250 rounds shot on day two. I will take their FoF class next spring. I got some good interviews while I was there, listen in and enjoy.

I also cover an email from a listener about gun laws in Puerto Rico.

Training your mind will help you be more effective to defend yourself with your bullets.  This is another episode on mindset. The fighting mindset and according to Gabe Suarez, the silly things gun schools teach that could get you killed.

Highlights:

  • 4 key points to maintain safety for you and your family.
  • The Bullet Proof Mind. (Lt. Col. Dave Grossman)
  • Selecting holsters suitable for defense rather than gun games.
  • Thy myth of the “one caliber” solution.
  • Excessive focus on long range handgun shooting.
  • Sighted shooting vs. Point Shooting.
  • Elaborate target systems.
  • Ignoring Combatives.
  • Lack of training like you would fight.
  • Freedom Raffle.
  • Negative criticism regarding Episode 70.

Bad shooting habits from competition shooting is a common problem.  You know I’m a big fan of the shooting sports but there are some bad habits people sometimes develop that can get you killed.  Also, some good listener feedback was sent to me while I was on vacation about gun control, The Appalachian Trail Guide, a new pistol league, Smith and Wesson M&P’s, accurized 1911’s and more.

The Texas State IDPA match was last Saturday June 12th.  Tune in and I’ll talk about the events leading up to it…my plan…and the results!  I also discuss some of the stages, their difficulty, the challenges and the push to become a better shooter.  It’s was a lot of fun. I achieved a couple goals and fell short on a couple.  More to work on….

Below are the 2 holsters I purchased at the match.  Greg Garrett from Comp-Tac is a superb guy and runs a great business.  I’m glad I got to meet him.

This is the Minotaur Neutral Cant I will use to appendix carry my G19.

The Gladiator I’ll use to OWB carry my G19.

The SIG P238 seems to be the most popular .380acp autopistol on the market today.   I recently purchased one, so I will give you and open and honest review based on personal experience nothing more, nothing less.  That’s the first half of the show, the second half is about overcoming shooter anxiety and some more listener feedback. I also discuss a little bit about Open Carry.

Highlights:

  • Why I like the SIG P238
  • Why at first I thought it was an expensive mistake.
  • Review of the pistol after 250 rounds in one range session.
  • Why some people get nervous in competition shooting.
  • How to overcome the jitters and nerves.
  • What to do if you’re carjacked at gunpoint.

Based on Mike Briggs’ article in Handgunsmag.com.  We’ve all heard practicing with your gun is just as important as the gun itself and the ammo you use.  In this show, I discuss 10 reasons why I feel that IDPA is excellent practice.    While it’s not a replacement for good fighting and combat training, there are many benefits from regularly shooting at your local IDPA club.  It’s not very expensive either.

Thanks for listening,
