Active shooter situations like the recent Aurora Colorado movie theater shooting and the recent shooting at the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin seem to really make people stop and think about their safety and how they plan to keep themselves safe. They almost always lead to more gun sales and more ammo sales. The main topic of this episode is a discussion of how the shooting in Colorado has changed my outlook on concealed carry, training and self defense. How has it changed you? This episode also begins with some listener voice mails. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast

Will competition shooting get you killed? That question has caused a lot of arguments in the gun community. Combat veteran Ben Branam joins me to share his combat experiences and to help answer the question of if and when competition shooting helps  you in a gunfight. We also discussed the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado and the success of Samuel Williams using his pistol to repel 2 guys who tried to rob an internet cafe in Florida. Thanks for listening.  Links can be found on the GRRN forum. Bob Mayne.

What will you do if you have to fight to your handgun? It seems like a lot of people train to fight with their handgun, but what if your attackers are trying to prevent you from accessing your handgun? Do you know how to handle that? In this episode I discuss that subject with a review of some training. Also, Alan from Utah, a listener sent me a pretty good voice mail about 2nd Amendment issues and a Wilderness Tactical SafePacker. A recent shooting at a college in California has sparked more controversy about whether students at universities should be able to carry concealed handguns for self defense. I think they should be allowed to. So this episode is based on an excellent article in Guns and Ammo magazine about the subject of concealed carry on campus. I will of course provide a link to that article on the GRRN forum. The first half of this episode is about listener voice mails on open carry, Kahr pistols, IDPA and Ben Branam’s international incident that almost happened. This show is about anti gun people and the arguments they use against people who wish to carry a gun for self defense. Have you ever spoken to an anti gun person who just doesn’t get it? In this episode I discuss the 2nd amendment in detail. I discuss what it actually means, how and why it was written and how it still applies today. If you find yourself in a discussion with an anti gun person, you may find some good ideas in this episode to help you have a persuasive and intelligent discussion about the 2nd amendment and the right to carry a firearm for self defense. This is based on the article, “Top Five Baseless and Subversive Arguments Against the Second Amendment” by Michael Chapdelaine. A link directly to the article can be found on the GRRN forum. This will be the last episode of this year, the next one will be Jan 2, 2011. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show

Audio from the Gun Rights Policy Conference held in Chicago Sept. 24th and 25th. I interviewed a few listeners and bloggers that share some valuable insights. You’ll also hear speeches from the KnifeRights.org group including Doug Ritter and Tom Gresham. I also include some audio from a group podcast that was held with quite a few GRRN podcasters including Eric Shelton from Handgun Podcast, Gail Pepin from The Pro Arms Podcast, Larry Piekarski from the Gun Rights News Podcast, Mark Vanderberg head of the Gun Rights Radio Network and Bar Stool Discussion, and Me. We also had a couple of faithful listeners that contributed to the group discussion. WARNING! The group podcast was recorded while we were having “fun” and letting it loose after the conference activities on Saturday! Since this is the 2nd podcast of this week, I will NOT be posting a show next week. So the next show will be Monday, Oct. 10th, 2011. I’m going to take a little time off. Please keep the comments coming in emails and audio format. I will get caught up on the next show. Please join the GRRN forum and the 2nd Amendment Foundation! Links can be found on the GRRN forum. The Gun Control subject is a touchy one. So many opinions. But one fact is clear, the 2nd amendment is an individual right and that has now been upheld by the SCOTUS. But in this episode I have a little fun with the gun control discussion. So there’s a little humor in this show and also some serious discussion. I found some good audio soundbites of some well known people and some anonymous people on the subject of Gun Control. Some news interviews too. I think you’ll enjoy them. Last week I took a trip to Montreal, Canada for the entire week on business. Therefore I was not able to carry my gun. It gave me a feeling of being naked, without it. Once concealed carry becomes a habit and part of your wardrobe and your lifestyle, have you ever noticed that if you don’t carry your gun, you get the feeling that something is missing? I did, so I decided to make that the main topic of this episode. Once carrying a gun becomes second nature, you’ll probably notice this. Also, aren’t there times when one needs to downsize their firearm, depending on their activity and mode of dress required? I think the answer is yes. So you won’t feel naked because you’re not carrying a gun. Some experts say “dress around your gun” which is fine in theory, but there are times when that’s just not possible, so I discuss that too. Remember to check out the Gun Rights Radio Network forum to find out the winner of the free ticket to Suarez International’s Close Range Gunfighting course in Dallas on May 28th and 29th and the High Noon holsters I’m giving away. More discussion on rental guns. After going to the range with James Kimmerle, I did an interview with him. We discussed our thoughts about a Glock .357Sig, FN 9mm and Beretta PX4 sub compact 9mm. At the beginning of the show I cover some information on a recent back up gun match I shot with my P380. We also discussed James’ new High Noon Public Secret left handed holster for his PX4. We also spent some time discussing the Tucson shooting and why the anti gunners and media have it all wrong. I also make an announcement about a new fund raising effort for the 2nd Amendment foundation. On December 14, 2010 a tragic shooting took place during a Florida School Board meeting. Jon Hodoway and I discuss the events that took place and what it means to all of us who conceal or open carry on a daily basis. Jon did his homework on this event, reading transcripts and analyzing videos. I think you’ll find his conclusions and opinions quite compelling. Here are a few questions I would like to pose to you as you listen to this. First, this happened in a gun free zone, so have you ever wondered how dangerous gun free zones really are? Secondly, why do people not believe that something like this can never happen to them? Third, are you prepared? Please take this information to heart and really think about what’ being said in this show and thanks for downloading and enjoy the interview. By the way, if you want to support my show consider investing in the digital download or CD I’ve just released. It’s packed with good shooting skills information, interviews and audio clips, exclusive only to those who help support my show.
