“They do not know, what they do not know.” That’s the unfortumate status of the naysayers of point shooting. In this episode, Roger Phillips joins me for part 2 of our point shooting dicsussion. Back in Episode 150 he laid down the ground work for the point shooting discussion. This episode is a continuation. We discuss subjects like low light point shooting, keys to a reactive gunfight, hand eye coordination and a lot more. It will probably make you less concerned about the sights on your handgun and more concerned about improving your ability to shoot it. Links will be posted on the GRRN forum. Thanks for downloading and listening.

How to spot trouble and selecting your concealed carry ammo are the two primary topics in this episode. Ben Branam and I discussed these 2 subjects on the way home from an IDPA match about a week ago. We discussed what to look for in someone who may want to harm you and then we transitioned to the subject of ammunition selection and ballistics. I also answer some listener email. A real gunfight is described by Ben Branam. In this episode we will discuss what a person thinks during a real gunfight, the reflexive responses that take place during a real gunfight and how a person defaults to their level of training. Ben has been in several gunfights and clearly describes one of them in this podcast. Whether you’re a civilian, law enforcement officer or a military person, you should gain some very valuable insight from this podcast. As I’ve mentioned many times, I hope I never have to use a firearm in self defense, but my quest to be an consistent student of concealed carry and self defense, I decided to seek the experience of someone who has been in this situation. I firmly believe you’ll enjoy this show and you will also hear a surprising admission by Ben, regarding action shooting and combat! Perhaps nothing is more important when using your handgun to defend yourself, as busting off the X. In this episode, I discuss a recent training class I took and how much it helped me learn that not getting shot is probably just as important as being able to shoot well. In the unfortunate situation of having to defend yourself with a gun, do you know how to avoid getting shot too? I also discuss long range pistol shooting and give you a recap of the training class and even a restaurant tip. A couple of fellow students also joined me for an interview at Suarez International’s Advanced Close Range Gunfigthing course. Thanks for listening and remember to check the GRRN forum for links. Also, there’s less than 2 weeks left to get in on my drawing on December 16th, 2011. It requires an investment in my Shooter’s club podcast, but I’ve just increased the amount of giveaways. I’ve received quite a few emails asking me, “what is a 1,000 round trigger job?” First, let me say, I didn’t make that up. I read it somewhere on a forum and can’t remember where, but I’m sure that expression has been used before. So during the first segment, I’ll answer in detail what I mean by that. Trigger jobs are one of the most talked about modifications on a handgun, yet it seems like some people spend too much money on them and don’t get a good enough benefit. Most decent quality guns have triggers that can be mastered with enough practice. That’s my main point, but listen for more details. During segment 2, I respond to my backlog of listener emails. Please keep them coming, I will get to most of them. Links can be found on the GRRN forum. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show

Don’t miss this episode. Next Monday, I’ll be posting more audio from the Gun Rights Policy Conference. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show

I had the pleasure of interviewing a professional pilot who also carries concealed and is a competition shooter. So I interviewed him and got his unique perspective on concealed carry. We discussed the issue of concealed carry on airplanes and whether it would be a good idea or not and also his testing of RBCD ammo. We also discussed his M&P .40c and our situational awareness when carrying in public, especially a restaurant. This episode begins with a few audio comments from listeners and my follow up answers regarding open carry and gun store clerks. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show

Jon Hodoway joins me on this episode to discuss mindset of concealed carry. He also shares a recent experience he had where mindset paid off. He was carrying but it had a good ending. We also got into good discussion on how to select a firearms trainer. Jon is a firearms trainer for the Pro Arms team and usually has some very valuable insights. This show is no exception. He’s a traveller like me and travels with his handguns. He shares a story about what happened to him on the road. Also, Un-named Trucker submitted a review of the Galco King Tuk holster. Please remember to join the forums at the Gun Rights Radio Network and my Shooter’ Club Podcast. Links for this episode can be found on the HandgunWorld Show section on the GRRN forum. A little over a week ago I took Suarez International’s Close Range Gunfighting course in Dallas. Many listeners were there to train with me. It was intense and taught us about the defensive mindset and how to safely and efficiently use our gun to stop the situation if it ever got to that point. So I decided to record a little bit of what happened at the course. I interviewed other students and also had a chance to record our instructor discuss the significant points of the class. Short of actually being there, this recording should help you share the experience. Please try to get to one of these classes. I think it’s a wise investment if you carry a gun and plan to use it as a defensive tool. We cover after action assessments, SUL, shooting with both hands and a lot more. Thanks for listening. I will post links related to this show on the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum. Thanks for listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show.

This week I address the long backlog of listener feedback and questions. Some of the topics are the 1,000 round trigger job, IDPA, gun ownership and mental health issues, Glock triggers, magazine capacity, training and even a few disagreements with some of the points made on a few of my recent shows. I think that’s a good thing because there are a lot of ways to defend yourself with a handgun and differences of opinion are healthy. This was recorded about a week in advance so if you’ve sent me a questions or comment within the last week, I will get to it on next week’s show. Thanks for your comments! Please feel free to join the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum and make more comments there if you wish. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show.

Al Vennemeyer, owner of Stealth Defense Strut Holsters, Inc., joins me as my guest. We discuss his new holster design and why he feels it solves some problems that concealed carry sometimes presents. He sent me one for T&E, so I will carry it for a few weeks and let you know what I think. Also, I shot an IDPA match at Cross Timbers IDPA recently and shot quite well, but made a critical error. It didn’t cost me much but it could have. So the first segment I recap that particular stage for you. I’ve also included some responses to listeners questions and emails in segment 3. I did a 3 way Skype call with Steve Zopfi and Rick Breneman, hosts of the Power Factor Show. This turned into a roundtable discussion on everything from concealed carry to training, NRA certification and CCW laws. This conversation took a lot of interesting twists and turns. It’s fun when a planned conversation changes course a few times. This is un-edited, except for the trailer at the end. Steve even challenges me on a couple of issues, which I think was kind of cool. Rick talks a lot about his NRA certifications and the value of the NRA courses. Steve discusses the IPSC 101 training classes he does and in addition, we discussed how we feel about the training required for concealed carry permits. Very little discussion is on what happens in competition however. Thanks for listening and please remember that everyone who invests in version 2 of my Shooters Club Podcast gets a free raffle ticket, to win an admission to Suarez International’s Close Range Gunfighting course on May 28,29th in Dallas. Winner will be announced May 16th. Click here to get signed up. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show.

Shooting range discussion is the main topic of this show. As many of you know, I like to shoot the Real World Gun shooting match at Dallas Pistol Club. After the match, I interviewed 3 shooters who also listen to this show to get their opinions on the match and what they learned from it. We also discussed carry guns. One shooter, who is an avid USPSA shooter, kind of surprised me when we talked about his carry gun. I really stunk in this match. I had one stage that was horrible and it destroyed my score. But I was able to pull off a couple of real good shots that made the whole match worthwhile. As I’ve mentioned quite often, you just can’t practice some of this stuff at a square range. So this podcast should help you experience some of it. I also answer some listener questions and emails. Next week I will do a review of the High Noon Alter Ego and the High Noon Hideaway holsters I’ve been using lately. Don’t forget to join the GRRN forum and my YouTube Channel too. Thanks for listening, Bob Mayne – HandgunWorld Show

So much good feedback and questions have been sent to me in the past few weeks. I really appreciate it, so in this episode I get caught up on quite a bit of my backlog of emails. This show includes information about High Noon Holsters, the Kel Tec PLR-16, Texas Gun Talk forums, stopping power, Center Axis Relock, testing handguns and more. Most of this show is contributed by people on the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum and emails sent to me recently. I consider this a show produced by the listeners. I’m just the host and the guy that puts it together. Thanks for listening and safe shooting! Bob Mayne – HandgunWorld Show
