This episode is a guest interview with Paul Lathrop of the Politics and Guns podcast. I don’t normally discuss politics or have debates or discussions on political issues regarding the 2nd Amendment, but this one is a good one and I decided to make an exception. We discussed what should be required and what should not be required to own and carry a gun. This episode starts with listener voice mails. Thanks for downloading and listening.

Great topic Bob! I’d take issue with your whole argument and line of thinking however. To say that adding another requirement to gun purchares would reduce red tape is laughable. If the elimination of gun control measures was part of a hypothetical mandatory training measure, it would never happen.

Instead of forcing gun owners into training with new laws, how ’bout pushing for states to offer rebates or eliminate the background check fee if you take a class within a given time? No new law, no more red tape, it wouldn’t displace some of the cost of the class.

I know you didn’t mean it this way but Bob, to say that you’re proposing additional requirements to own a gun as a FAVOR to gun owners is almos insulting. A true favor would be to offer your classes for free!

If I’m not mistaken, I mentioned my intent with my proposal is to eliminate all of the other regulations on gun purchases and replace them with a simple training class. So I do not favor additional regulation, but less that what already exists.
