The 9mm 1911 used to be considered a “sissy” gun.  Not anymore.  Seem like more and more people are choosing to buy the 1911 in this caliber because of the low cost of .45 ammo and the light weight of the gun.  And because it’s in a 1911 platform that so many shooters know and love.

Now I’m an owner of a 9mm, 1911 pistol.  Tune in to hear about the advantages and disadvantages of this gun and why I bought it and why I think it’s an excellent concealed carry choice for shooters who like the 1911 platform but my want something other than .45acp.

Thanks for listening to the show, don’t forget to check out my common sense survival show and join our forum if you want to talk guns too.

I listened to this podcast over the past 2 days, I think it is maybe the 4th one I have listened to, and I was amazed how similar our pistol choices are.

I decided to standardize on 9mm so I could afford to practice frequently (I shoot about 400rds a month), so I could limit the calibers I had to have on hand, and because I found that I got back on target much faster. Last year I ordered a Stainless Kimber Pro Carry on 9mm and I purchased a G19 while I was waiting for it to be produced.

I carry Wilson Combat 10rd mags in the Kimber, originally I bought them to use in IDPA, but I am really happy with them and trust them for carry. I have Meprolight Night Sights and a CT laser grip on it and really like both. Additionally I use the Milt Sparks VM2 and find it carrys well. My only grip is the plastic main-spring housing has a spot on it that isn’t flush and can scratch me. I plan on having a metal part installed and hope it elevates the issue.

I call the Kimber a cheater gun because I am so much more accurate with it and can shoot it more quickly.

My G19 is my EDC however… I use a M-Tac and Ameriglo TFO’s on it and think very highly of them too.

My next purchase is likely to be a Kahr PM9 and then I think I will have the perfect 9mm pistol Trinity for concealed carry.

I agree with you about the Kimber 9mm being a cheater gun. Sure is a sweet shooter. First 200 rounds were a lot of fun. I don’t think anything will leap over my G19 as my favorite pistol, but I can tell you that the Kimber sure is fun and will get carried. Thanks for listening the my show and for your comment.

    Safe shooting!
